The local Bastille Day Celebration will feature cocktails followed by a buffet dinner at the Ariel Sands hotel in Devonshire.

The evening, which gets underway at 7.30 p.m., will include plenty of French music and the chance to win a magnum of champagne.

Tickets are $60 for members , $70 for non-members and are available at Bermuda Wines and Spirits on Front Street in Hamilton.

*** The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society is currently staging the production `Oleanna'' by David Mamet at the Daylesford Theatre in Hamilton.

The show, directed by Carol Birch, is an adult drama in which characters, John and Carol, go at it with hand to hand combat that amounts to a primal struggle for power.

*** In honour of the International Year of the Older Persons, the Hamilton Lions Club proudly presents `An Evening of Musical Elegance'.

The event will feature Rose A. Wilson-Hill from the Columbus Symphony Chorus accompanied by the talent of Sophia Cannonier, Beresford Richardson and the Brass Ensemble.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 24 at 8.30 p.m. at the City Hall in Hamilton. Tickets are $25 and available from Twice Told Tales Book Store, Gloria's Fashion Fabrics and Roses Flower Shop.

All proceeds will go to senior citizens rest homes.

*** The Bermuda National Gallery recently welcomed a new development director to their organisation.

Jennifer Furbert has assumed development responsibilities for the BNG from Carla Bean.

Ms Furbert, a Bermudian, has recently returned to the Island after studying and working in the US, the UK and Senegal in West Africa.

The Princeton history graduate, who also possesses a law degree from Buckingham University in England, studied French and African civilisation at the University of Dakar in Senegal.
