Top chess players meet face-to-face

Mickey Adams of England and top US grandmaster Yasser Seirawan will compete at the Mermaid Beach Club on South Road, Warwick, beginning tomorrow.

The event, organised by the Bermuda Chess Association, will also include an invitational Grandmaster Chess Tournament.

Minister of Legislative Affairs, Lois Browne Evans, will open the tournament ceremony.

The Chess Association's president, Nigel Freeman, also revealed that among those competing in the Grandmaster Tournament will be 15-year-old Etienne Bacrot of France, who in 1997 overtook Bobby Fischer's record of being the youngest Grandmaster ever; Josh Waitzkin, upon whom the film "Searching for Bobby Fischer'' was based; and Maurice Ashley who is well known for his successful Chess in Schools programme in Harlem, New York.
