Top students Two former Saltus Grammar School students have earned recognition for achieving high grades in the US College Board Advanced Placement

National Team Debater Eli Lipschultz, earned an AP Scholar with Honor Award by having an average of 3.25 on all AP exams taken and a grade of at least 3.0 or higher on four or more of his exams.

Now studying at the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Lipschultz actually had a grade average of 3.83 on the four exams he took.

Sommer Fasulo earned an AP Scholar Award by earning a 4.0 grade average on three exams she took.

Ms Fasulo has had her entry into the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia to tour with Up With People.

Only 13 percent of 700,000 students who took AP exams in May earned a sufficiently high grade average to earn at least a Scholar Award.

Universities in the US, Canada and the UK recognise AP qualifications. Saltus has offered the course work and examinations since 1974 when the Saltus Graduate Year programme was started.

Christina Wrigley, the Graduate Year Head Teacher, said of the AP course work: "Evidence shows that students who have taken AP courses are better prepared for university work and that they consistently out-achieve their contemporaries by earning higher grade point averages in college.''
