Travel agent defends flight cancellation
ruining their holiday.
Some travellers claimed their Meyer Travel flight to Jamaica for the annual Sumfest music concert -- due to take off on Saturday -- was cancelled at the last minute, leaving them no time to make alternative arrangements.
But last night Meyer's charter division manager Pam Maybury claimed that passengers had been told that the special flight could be cancelled at any time if demand was not high enough.
And she said the company was able to accommodate all its passengers through commercial airlines, unless their passengers were on the `stop list' and could not travel via the US or Canada.
"All passengers booked through Meyer Travel were advised the charter would not depart if the booking numbers were not met,'' she said.
"Meyer Travel cancelled their charter and accommodated all their passengers via commercial carriers to their destination unless their passengers were on the `stop list'.'' Mrs. Maybury went on to explain that the company did all it could to help bail out another charter company, which had to cancel its flight.
"Meyer Travel did everything possible to organise for this company,'' she said.
"But the cost of the charter was prohibitive as the tickets sold to the other company's clients would not cover the expenses of the charter.'' BUSINESS BUC
