Trust president is awarded MBE
Queen's Birthday Honours List yesterday when she was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Seven other Bermuda residents also received honours.
Mrs. Phillips, of Mill Reach Road, Pembroke, is a member of the Gibbons family, which has a long tradition of community service. She was volunteers director at the Trust from 1976 to 1978 and chairman of its public relations committee for 1987 to 1990, when she became president.
A founding member of the Bermuda Horse and Pony Association in 1962, she served as senior instructor for the Bermuda Pony Club from 1962 to 1969. In 1978 she was elected president of the Women's Hospital Auxiliary, and from 1980 to 1985 she was president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Seven people were awarded the Queen's Certificate and Badge of Honour: Mr. Edward (Teddy) Chapman JP has been a member of the Public Transportation Board since 1977, and chairman for the past 10 years.
Mrs. Ann Dunstan, the first female Anglican church warden on the Island, was for five years president of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation.
Mr. Sydney Greet, local and international yachtsman, has been involved in major sailing competitions for around 25 years.
Mrs. Janet Hunter Outerbridge has been involved in Guiding for more than 25 years, as a guide leader and district commissioner.
Miss Dulcie Frith Roe has served in education for around 60 years and is a past secretary of the Teachers Association.
Miss Judy Siddle is president of Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association and former chairman of the Sports Development Council.
Capt. Edward Williams is a veteran sailor, sailboat charter operator, taxi-driver and expert on Bermudian history, architecture and customs.
