Mrs. Joy Preece-Flood and Mrs. Moya Boyd were given Crystal Awards at a luncheon at Camden hosted by the Premier and Lady Swan.

Women's Advisory Council chairman Mrs. JoCarol Robinson described Mrs. Boyd as being a strong human rights activist.

"Her focus on women's issues have been many. In the 1940s while in her native Scotland as a teacher she pushed for the right for women to enter and study law and lobbied for equal pay for female teachers,'' Mrs. Robinson said.

"She was also the chairman for the committee for the reform of the rape law, 1979, which included confidentiality of the victim, confidentiality of the accused unless found guilty and longer sentences for offences against women.'' Mrs. Preece-Flood's contribution to women has been as a provider of child care services for 39 years, enabling women to be able to go to work with the knowledge that their children were well cared for.

"She has endeavoured to be accommodating with extended hours of keeping children and has even gone so far as to take children home if the mothers were unable to collect them when the school closed,'' Mrs. Robinson said, adding that she has been a source of guidance for mothers and fathers as well as children.
