US Professor says education not child's play
in improving their young child's development.
Toni Linder, a professor of Education at the University of Denver, has written a book entitled "Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment (TPBA): A Functional Approach to Working with Young Children''.
Dr. Linder has worked with families to help them achieve self-sufficiency and improving the developmental progress of their young children.
Bermuda's Child Development Programme is hosting Dr. Linder to conduct a two-day training workshop for its staff today and tomorrow.
According to Dr. Linder, social skills, cognitive understanding, emotional development, language use, and physical/motor skills are influenced by the child's play experiences.
With TPBA, professionals and parents have the opportunity to view the child as well as observe parent-child interaction to help identify developmental delays.
The lecture for parents is at the Bermuda Cathedral Hall tonight from 7.30 until 9 p.m.
