St. Lucian-born writer Derek Walcott will present the gift after taking part in a public reading of his work scheduled for Saturday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Mr. Walcott will be visiting the Island to view a local production of his play "Remembrance'', staged by the West Indian Association.

College Vice President of Student Affairs Donald Peters stated he was "delighted'' by Mr. Walcott's gesture.

"We are all looking forward to meeting Mr. Walcott, and are eagerly anticipating the public reading where he will share his work with us all,'' he said.

West Indian Association president Shurnette Caines said she was pleased Bermuda College students would be benefiting indirectly from the play.

"We invite everyone to join us at the Reading at the College as well as the play at City Hall to enjoy Mr. Walcott's work as part of our mission to share all aspects of Caribbean culture with Bermuda,'' said Mrs. Caines.

The Association will be offering a special student rate of $20 for the opening night of the play on November 5.

There will also be a special "curtain-raiser'' showcase prior to opening night featuring local poets, writers and the West Indian Folk Singers expressing their experience through the theme "Island Life''.
