Voted Fire Fighter of the Year by his peers, Mr. Washington was the first recipient of the award established in honour of long-serving firefighter William Glasford Sr. In a release from the Bermuda Fire Service Mr. Washington was praised for his "high standard of professionalism both while on and off duty''.

He has been in the Service for 14 years, is an avid cyclist and an active member of his church ''Miracle Temple''.
