Whale man come in from the cold
returning to the warmth of Bermuda -- not surprisingly so, since he spent most of the summer camped out on the ice edge of the Arctic.
Mr. Nicklin is making his third visit to the Island and will present a talk and slide show at the City Hall Theatre next Tuesday at 8 p.m.
His presentation, entitled "Dolphins and Killer Whales'', will include photographs featured in the September, 1992, National Geographic article "Dolphins In Crisis''.
The photographs were taken during a year-long worldwide assignment which required Mr. Nicklin to travel almost from pole to pole.
They include rarely photographed animals such as Chinese and Amazon River dolphins.
The show will also feature pictures of killer whales from other articles, which have helped to earn Mr. Nicklin recognition as "The Whale Man''.
Mr. Nicklin is also keen to meet up again with Bermudians he met during his travels, including Dr. Colin and Mrs. Peggy Couper who he encountered in the Arctic and local diver Mr. Robert Limes, who he met in Costa Rica.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Zoological Society, which is presenting the evening, said: "Anybody who has been at Nicklin's previous talks will know that he has a relaxed, amusing and entertaining style in describing events surrounding his photographs.
"As with other presentations there will be an opportunity to ask questions and get to know more about his lifestyle.'' Books and posters will be on sale before the lecture. Tickets are on sale from noon to 2 p.m. on weekdays.
The event is sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda.
Mr. Flip Nicklin.
