evening next month, featuring music and art.

The highlight of the May 1 event will be the Pembroke Players and Friends performing Saint Saen's "Carnival of the Animals'', narrated by Mr. Nigel Kermode.

A collection of pieces by several well-known composers, "Carnival of the Animals'' was written "in a very frivolous way'' for the enjoyment of Saint Saen's friends.

Offenbach's "Can Can'' was given the slow-motion tempo of a tortoise and "Sylphs'' by Berloiz is performed on double bass to represent the elephant.

The programme also includes the Introduction, Royal March of the Lion, Hens and Cocks, Wild Asses, Kangaroo, Aquarium, Persons with Long Ears, the Cuckoo in the depths of the Woods, Aviary, Painists, Fossils, The Swan and the Finale.

The concert will be preceded by an hour-long gala cocktail reception and exhibition of paintings by Michelle Pasquin, beginning at 7.30 p.m.

Only a limited number of tickets are available, and can be purchased from the front desk at the Aquarium, Museum and Zoo: $35 for Bermuda Zoological Society members and $40 for non-members.

A special performance of "Carnival of the Animals'' will be held on April 30 at 5 p.m. for primary 5, 6 and 7 students.

The concert will be tailored to children and there will be a special introduction to the orchestra. Advance tickets ($5) may be purchased from the Aquarium front desk.
