All-star comedy line-up for show
Looking for a little light-hearted entertainment on these steamy summer nights? Tomorrow night's comedy show at the Fairmont Southampton might be the perfect answer.
Extreme Entertainment event organiser Mike Smith explained that Live Stand Up Comedy will feature international comedians such as Jason Andors, Vanessa Fraction, Smokey and Klymaxx, while comedian Nadanja Bailey will emcee the comedy night.
Mr. Smith spoke to The Royal Gazette about the international acts that are performing at tomorrow night's showcase.
Vanessa Faction's credits include 'Barbershop 2', BET's 'Comic View', Oxygen's 'Girls Behaving Badley', Martin Lawrence Presents 'First Amendment Stand Up', TVOne's 'Who's Got Jokes' and 'The Funny Spot', HBO's 'DEF COMEDY JAM' and TVOne's 'Baisden After Dark'.
The comedienne has a wide range, Mr. Smith said: "Vanessa Fraction has worked around the world from Japan to Holland. She does a lot of Christian or clean shows and shows for kids.
"But she especially loves the college shows as well as being able to go to the uncensored clubs and she brings character to adult situations.
"In fact, whatever arena you see her in, expect a great time and a fabulous show! Her goal is for you to be inspired and learn in the midst of the laughter and excitement."
Meanwhile another performer, Smokey Derron Edington, recently captured a comedy competition.
"Smokey was the winner of the of the Bud Light's Comedian of the year competition and he packs a powerful punch of laughter," Mr. Smith said.
"He was raised in Harlem, New York and was the eldest of four brothers. He was born of mixed parentage and his mother is African American, while his father is Hispanic.
"He grew up with plenty to talk about, was the class clown and he always knew he wanted to be a comedian.
"At present he in on this season's HBO 'Def Comedy Jam' and BET's 'Comic View', and 'Showtime at the Apollo'. He was also in 'Paper Soldiers', which is a Roc-A-Fella film.
"Last year Smokey won the 2007 Bay Area Comedy competition and he is definitely one to watch."
Filling out the bill will be Jason Anders. "Jason is also from New York and between the ages of 11 to 14 his main hobbies were being the class clown and break-dancing," Mr. Smith said.
"He was a member of various breaking crews, including Rock Boys, Fresh Creation and Pop A-lots. With these groups he competed and performed at many events.
"He then used his break-dancing skills to get himself accepted into the dance programme at the High School Of Performing Arts. There he studied ballet and modern dance, two dance forms that he used to make fun of.
"After completing high school, he studied ballet at The School of American Ballet."
An injury forced him out of ballet and he turned to managing a pool hall at night but eventually he decided to take his hobby of cracking jokes to the next level and pursue it as a profession.
He entered 'The Funniest College Student Contest' and won and he's been doing comedy ever since. He has performed at over 2,000 venues throughout the US, Canada and Europe.
His life experiences allow him to be comfortable performing in front of any crowd, whether black, white, Spanish or mixed, explained the event organiser. "No venue is wrong for him," he said.
"The comedian was recently seen on HBO's 'P Diddy Bad Boys Of Comedy 'and 'Showtime at the Apollo'.
"He has also appeared on Comedy Central's 'Premium Blend' and four times on BET's 'Comic View', Channel 3 in Holland 'Raymann is Laat,' SITV's 'Latino Laugh Festival' and 'Galavisions Que Loco,' Showtime's 'White Boys in da Hood'."
Aside from all of the above he also wrote and produced a pilot for Comedy Central and is also helping develop an animation series with artist and creator Justin Bua and producers and directors from Simpsons and King of the Hill.
"He is on his way up!"
In conclusion, Mr. Smith warned: "It will be extreme laughter! Please consult your doctor before attending this event!"
