Artistic possibilities come from printer's ink, a knife and canvas

Michael DeSilva's show 'Art by Slivo' is opening at Masterworks this evening.

Inspiration, a printer's ink and knife and canvases were all that were needed to prepare for the show 'Art by Silvo'.

Michael DeSilva's show opens tonight at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art's Rick Faries Gallery in the Botanical Gardens.

For years, Mr. DeSilva worked as a lithographic technician and this experience helped develop his concept with colour and blending. A few years ago, he developed a technique to transpose printing ink to canvas using only a printer's knife.

After creating a few pieces, he became captivated by the results, thus his free flowing images continue to this day.

"Several of my last pieces are a bit different [from the last show]," said Mr. DeSilva. "They are less concentrated, still flowing, still vibrant and very abstract.

"I am very excited about my unique medium and look forward to showing the public my art from the soul. I am continuing to create more and more exciting pieces as I grow with my medium."

In addition, he is currently teaching at Masterworks and his students are submitting one of their favourite pieces for the exhibit.

The show remains up until June 23.
