Bank awards more than $250,000 in scholarships

This year's Sir John W. Cox Scholarship for post-graduate studies -- valued at $20,000 per year for up to four years -- was awarded to Sandy DeSilva, who will be pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the University of Hartford.
And Bonnie Leibowitch was awarded the Sir Henry Tucker University Scholarship because of her outstanding scholastic, leadership and athletic abilities.
Ms Leibowitch is a Saltus graduate. She achieved 11 GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education), nine at grade A. She will use the scholarship, valued at $20,000 for up to four years, to pursue a veterinary medicine degree at Edinburgh University.
Three Sir Henry Tucker Education Grants, valued at $6,000 per year for up to three years, were awarded to the runners up for the University Scholarship.
Berkeley Institute graduate Kathryn Providence, who has attended Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science degree at University of Toronto, is a grant recipient.
Leila Wadson will use her grant to study science and mathematics at Brown University this autumn. She attended Bermuda High School for Girls and graduated from Saltus post-graduate year this summer.
Kennett Easton and Raymon Glasford are both 1999 Bank of Bermuda Technology Scholarship winners, which are valued at $10,000 per year for up to two years.
Ms Easton graduated from Hesser College with an associate's degree in micro-computer support, and will be attending Howard University to pursue a bachelor's degree in computer science and systems.
And Warwick Academy graduate Mr. Glasford will be entering his senior year at Bryant College.
Five students were awarded the Bank of Bermuda President's Award for Scholastic Achievement, including Garon Wilkinson, Shomeiko Ingham, Kristen Di Giacomo, Deanna DeShields and Jennifer Cabral. The President's Awards are worth $4,000 each.
Bank of Bermuda human resources senior vice president Mark Perreault said: "It is a great pleasure to be able to present the scholarships to these young Bermudian students.'' Class act: The Bank of Bermuda presented 12 scholarships to students.
