Bermudian to be featured soloist at Lions concert
Bermudian Rose A. Wilson-Hill, a member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus in Ohio, has returned home to be the featured soloist in Saturday night's "Evening of Musical Elegance'' at City Hall, sponsored by the Hamilton Lions Club.
Ms Wilson-Hill, who left Bermuda in 1966 to attend college in the United States, has travelled extensively with the Chorus since joining as an alto in 1974.
In 1988 she was appointed to the CSO Task Force, which successfully established the first Columbus Symphony Orchestra Community Gospel Choir of over 100 voices.
Through her dedication to community service, Ms Wilson-Hill has made many guest appearances on television, in churches, and at community organisations throughout the United States, and she has also been the featured soloist on a religious television series.
In addition to her own performance on Saturday, Ms Wilson-Hill will introduce a young, fellow Bermudian who also sings with a symphony chorus abroad. The identity of the mystery guest will remain a closely-guarded secret until he or she appears on stage.
Saturday's concert, which is being held under the distinguished patronage of Mrs. Elsbeth Gibson and in honour of the International Year of Older Persons, will also feature dancer Sophia Cannonier, vocalist Beresford (Barry) Richardson, and the Brass Ensemble.
The Ensemble, formed especially for the occasion, includes Ralph Richardson (trumpet), Michael Taylor (alto sax), Winslow Pearman (tenor sax), Deon Flash (piano), Nolan Smith (drums), and Beresford Richardson (drums).
Curtain time for the concert, described as "a fusion of Bermudian talent'', is 8 p.m., and tickets ($25) are available from Opus 1, Anthony's and Twice Told Tales Book Store in Hamilton, as well as Gloria's Fashion & Fabrics in Warwick, Roses Flower Shop in Sandys, and Hamilton Lions Club members. Further information is also available from Ms Sheryl Iris at 298-4666.
Proceeds from the event will go to local senior citizens' homes.
