Chocolate lovers, come out and sample the real thing

Health coach Preston Ephraim's Chocolate Extravaganza goes off tonight at Cambridge Beaches.

For the French it's chocolat, the Germans say schokolade, the Italians cioccolato and for the English, we simply say chocolate.

But tonight, only one language will be spoken and that's the language of pure chocolate at the Chocolate Extravaganza, organised by health coach Preston Ephraim.

The event almost seems to be a contradiction in terms, but Mr. Ephraim said chocolate in its natural form is filled with nutrients that everyday chocolate lacks.

He will provide guests with some of the healthiest chocolate on earth. "I'll go on line and say that the chocolate that we get in the stores is not real chocolate," claimed Mr. Ephraim.

"For instance some chocolate products are about five or six percent real chocolate and it has all these different fillers and artificial sweeteners and all these things that cause your body to say, 'what the hell?'.

"This is pure chocolate and it is not the sense of this dark chocolate that people think of as very bitter, it is not that.

"It is going to be absolutely delicious, it is healthy and pure chocolate in its natural form is filled with antioxidants, magnesium, iron, things that your body needs and it is one of the reasons why women crave it when they are on their cycle.

"Their bodies need those minerals and chocolate provides that. So when you get this healthy state of chocolate, it doesn't have any detrimental effects, it increases your dopamine and it makes you feel happy."

"The chocolate will also have some super foods in it,' he explained. "Super foods are foods that have a higher nutritional source, and there is a higher energy with them.

"Something that people can probably relate to is goji berries, that would be considered a super food.

"There are other things like blue green algae, spirulina and another thing is mila, because of the elements it provides. These are infused into the chocolate and there are nine different flavours right now."

He added: "This is going to be such an amazing event, and it is the first of its kind for Bermuda. You are going to have live entertainment, performers, you'll have all you can eat chocolate from all over the world, there'll be Balinese chocolate, Ecuadorean and Peruvian chocolate.

"My vision is to create an atmosphere where people aren't centred around alcohol, where people can actually engage in dialogue and to also have a diverse group of people together who normally wouldn't be together under any other circumstance who are making connections and new relationships while being in a place where they feel absolutely comfortable and safe."

Mr. Ephraim has produced events in the United States, but he wanted to put together an event in Bermuda where it was more than just another event and something that was less centred around drinking.

"I mean, you can have alcohol there, but it is not centred around a bar and that's the reason why I am creating these events," he said.

The event takes place at the Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa from 8.30 p.m. and runs until midnight.
