Colourful bluebirds boxes set to be auctioned
The Bermuda Society of Arts has gone to the birds, or at least to Bermuda's bluebirds for an auction on Friday.
Gallery director Lesley Rego says newly painted bluebird boxes, which will be on auction this week, will give the birds a new home and something to sing about.
Fifty bluebird boxes are on display in the Edinburgh Gallery, at the Bermuda Society of Arts, at City Hall.
"The bluebird boxes are uniquely decorated by Bermuda's talented artists," she said.
The artists include Charles Zuill, Sheilagh Head, Will Collieson, Antoine Hunt, Mary Powell, Christine, Megan and David Wellman, Kelly Hunt, Proctor Martin, Jennifer Johnston, Lee Davidson and Suzie Lowe.
A reception will take place from 5 p.m. where the artists will be on hand, and the auction will start at 6 p.m. with guest auctioneer, Bruce Barritt. The Audubon Society will be present to answer any questions.
"Come and support the Audubon Society, the Bermuda Society of Arts, and especially the bluebirds of Bermuda!"
The first 50 people to register will be given a souvenir paddle specially created for the occasion by Sunell van der Westhuysen, who won first prize in the Digital Art category in the current TECHART 09 Show in the Society's Onions Gallery.
TECHART 09 is in full swing, and as usual, proves to bring in a lot of visitors and attract a great cross-section of the community. It is definitely a 'crowd pleaser', so try to visit to the Onions Gallery soon.
