After a long detention, 2 Fools are back with their annual back to "skool" fun day.

The free fun day, organised by comedy team Jah Simmons and Nadanja Bailey, will be held tomorrow at Shelly Bay field.

The day's foolishness will include food, gombeys, local performers, majorettes, funcastles, a free second-hand toy giveaway, silly races and a dunk tank.

"The kids love it," said Mr. Simmons.

"It is good to keep them involved and let them know people haven't forgotten about them. With all the negativity about young people, it is easy to think that."

This is their third fun day. One year they missed due to a venue mix-up. Mr. Simmons said the last fun day went really well despite bad weather.

"At our fun days, we play silly games with the kids," he said.

"At this one we will have the Crimestoppers mascot dog to give people an insight on what the Police do, which we feel is necessary.

"We want to get information to the kids and adults who are there, to let people know what steps are being taken to prevent the nonsense that is going on in the community."

Two Fools hope that their fun day will not only give back, but also help to raise money for their newly registered charity.

"We are asking for donations for our charity, the Multi-Image Scholarship Fund," said Mr. Simmons. "This scholarship is to assist people who want to broaden their knowledge about entertainment, be it backstage production, writing and so forth."

He said the scholarship committee won't just be looking at academics.

"Sometimes the best entertainment producers didn't do school very well," he said.

Mr. Simmons said although there probably won't be time for him and Mr. Bailey to do a full comedy sketch during the fun day, they will be noticeable and involved in everything at the event.

They recently held a tag day to raise money for their scholarship fund.

"We have stickers that show a gun with a stop sign over it," he said. "The stickers say 'No Guns , Save Our Bermuda'."

Mr. Simmons said he and Mr. Bailey are very concerned about the escalating violence in the community.

"It is becoming a real problem, so much so that when it happens now we become desensitised to it," Mr. Simmons said. "And that is really bad."

Mr. Simmons, who also works as a bartender, said he sometimes comes across angry young people.

"I meet young people who are angry or out there as far as gang life," he said. "I have found that a lot of them don't even want to be in it, but it is a place they feel accepted."

He said that he and Mr. Bailey were lucky enough to grow up in supportive families.

"Maybe if we were coming up now, it would have been harder for us," he said. "A lot of the young people I meet have a lot of talent. If we don't give them a way to channel their ability they will collapse."

The comedy duo this year celebrated their tenth anniversary with a special show, May 24 holiday appearances and an anniversary party.

The fun day at Shelly Bay Field will run from 12.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Parking will be at the back of Shelly Bay field. Admission is free.
