High energy, fun, and tributes to Michael Jackson and Teddy Pendergrass is what those attending the United Dance Productions' (UDP) dance recital at the Whitney Institute auditorium this weekend can expect.

Under the direction of the school's founder, owner, and artistic director, Suzette Harvey, aspiring dancers aged three to 17 will showcase their development in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop and modern theatre.

"The audience will enjoy a night of high energy dancing, and fun is also the name of the game," Miss Harvey says.

"Dance recitals can make you laugh so much until you cry because we have to keep in mind that it is a learning experience for young people to express themselves, no matter how good they are."

Ballet performances will be based on 'The Lion King' theme, while jazz will be centered on the 'Fame' theme.

"This is the dance school's eighteenth recital, and we are always very excited when we see so much progression, dedication and commitment from our students. Every year they get a better understanding from this incredible art form," Miss Harvey added.

"UDP continues to be committed to excellence for Bermuda's youth. We continue to train students at the highest level, so that if they do consider a career in dance they are best prepared, and our track record has proven that."

Performances are on Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets ($35) are sold at the UDP Studio in Hamilton as follows: Monday to Friday: 12 noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information telephone 295-9933.
