York on a two-day whirlwind working trip.

Known as "The Body'' in fashion circles for her six foot, athletic frame, Ms Macpherson is currently shooting a series of TV spots called "Hot Summer Nights'' to be aired on ESPN, a cable sports channel this summer.

And this year's Sports Illustrated cover girl is expected to be watched by over 65 million viewers as she promotes water sports featured on ESPN from resorts around the world.

Ms Macpherson flashed her brilliant smile at visitors and onlookers on Elbow Beach yesterday and whispered "hot summer nights'' for the cameras until a morning shower caused everyone to run for shelter.

"I came here 10 years ago with Sunday Times Magazine, but very briefly,'' she said. "Bermuda is one of those undiscovered, wonderful places close to New York. It's really beautiful.'' "I'm hoping that someone will give me a house down here,'' she joked.

The model, recently turned actress, is en route to London to promote "Sirens'', her first film, which is currently showing in the US.

But the film is said to be most notable for scenes where Ms. Macpherson romps nude against a bohemian backdrop. Described by critics as "soft core porn'' the film also stars heartthrob Hugh Grant of "Four Weddings and a Funeral'' and Sam Neill of "Jurassic Park'' and "Dead Calm''.

Tanned and relaxed in white shorts and a cut-off navy top, Ms. Macpherson posed in a deckchair as she periodically wiped raindrops from her sunglasses.

But while the crew watched the rain as they huddled resignedly under sun umbrellas, Ms. Macpherson's mind was on other things.

"I could really do with a Mars Bar,'' she sighed.
