Fibre Arts Festival opens tonight
Tonight marks the opening of the Kaleidoscope Art Foundation's second annual 'Educational Fibre Arts Festival' at its school and gallery on Jubilee Lane in Devonshire.
It features the fibre arts of US fibre artists, as well as local artists and artisans, and will continues to Saturday, December 13. As part of this event, Kaleidoscope is opening its doors for free on December 6 and 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during which the public can observe ongoing fibre arts demonstrations by visiting and local artists.
The demonstrations will include weaving, various methods of felting, basket weaving, painting on silk, proddy hooking, crocheting and more. The public will also be able to speak with the artists, see their work on display, and purchase holiday gifts of fibre arts, as well as some of the supplies necessary to create them.
In addition to the free public events, Kaleidoscope is offering more than 50 fibre art workshops for all skill levels, and ages from toddlers up, as well as school groups, beginning tomorrow and continuing through December 14. These workshops will cover a variety of weaving, felting and needlework techniques. Students will have opportunities in felt to learn mask making, nuno, silk fusion, flowers and jewellery, as well as scarves, bags, sculpture and the newest form of felting: Artfelt®.
