Fringe festival kicks-off tonight
The Bermuda Festival fringe festival, 'Dahn de Hill to Daylesford', launches tonight with the first of two performances of 'Ber-Mused', an evening of poetry written and performed by Bermudians Christopher Astwood, Kim Dismont-Robinson, Jane Downing, Jeremy Frith, Ronald Lightbourne, Nancy Anne Miller, Alan Smith and Wendy Fulton Steginsky.
In addition to writing poetry, Mr. Astwood is presently pursuing a Master's degree at the University of East Anglia, in the UK. Miss Dismont-Robinson is also a playwright, scholar and folklife officer at the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs; Ms. Downing is Registrar of the Bermuda Maritime Museum; Mr. Frith lives on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia; Mr. Lightbourne is a musician and writer; Mrs Miller lives in the US; Mr. Smith is co-founder of Chameleon Productions, a theatrical company with a fringe sensibility; and Mrs. Steginsky, now resident in the US, is a contributing editor to the online magazine, Wild River Review.
Late-night offerings in the relaxed atmosphere of Daylesford Theatre are a new feature of the Bermuda Festival. They provide an opportunity for audiences to catch the ambience, first with a drink in the bar before moving into the theatre for the performance, and then follow up with animated discussion in the bar.
Daylesford Theatre is situated on the corner of Dundonald and Washington Streets, and the evening begins at 9 p.m.
