'Glue' is BIFF's feature film
An edgy, coming-of-age feature set in the wilds of Argentinean Patagonia is the Bermuda International Film Festival's Film Series selection for November.
'Glue' will screen tomorrow evening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute at 6.30 p.m. Tickets — $8 for BIFF Film Club members and $10 for non-members — can be reserved by e-mailing BIFF at info@biff.bm.
The 110-minute feature by first-time director Alexis Dos Santos won awards at festivals in Rotterdam, Nantes, San Francisco and Turin, and was invited to the prestigious 'New Directors, New Films' festival at the Film Society of Lincoln Centre in New York.
The film sees three teenagers — Lucas, Nacho and Andrea — fumbling with their nascent sexualities. The director provided his young actors with a story, the structure of the film, and a ten-page script, but the film is largely improvised by its young cast.
Aside from dealing with their emerging sexuality, Lucas must contend with his parents' imminent divorce, Nacho obsesses over music, while Andrea (Ines Efron, seen at BIFF 2008 in 'XXY') is preoccupied with her too-slowly developing body.
The film is a gorgeous paean to memory and adolesence, with a soundtrack by the Violent Femmes, and engaging performances.
