HOMEGROWN ON THE ROAD

It all seems to be taking off for Bermuda's Homegrown Band which just released a new CD – as well as embark on a tour in the US.

Tomorrow the band kicks off its six-week tour at Pier 23, in San Francisco, and from there they will travel to cities including Las Vegas.

Now based in Ohio, the band is also looking to hire a manager to help them navigate their way around deals in the US.

Lead vocalist McCannon Cassidy, aka Mista.Moxx, said: "It is really going to be an interesting month and a half. It is the first time that we have been out on the road for more than a week or two.

"We will be playing for new people, brand new fans, people who haven't seen us before, people who may just have heard about us and a bunch of people who haven't."

All sorts of things are happening for the Homegrown band including management deals. They are also in touch with booking agents.

"We are going after a management option right now, it is on the table, I am not going to say any names, but we are sussing out management options to take us to the next level.

"We can self-manage on the Island, but it is just a huge pond over here, so we need a big fish to be able to help us out."

Mr. Cassidy added: "We have picked up lawyers now, and a law firm is helping us with all the aspects of this legal game. We are fully legitimising ourselves over here in the States, because it is a bigger game with more hoops to jump through."

Although they prefer to be in Bermuda, the band knew if it wanted true stardom it had to leave.

"Everybody told us we've got to go, being on the Island is great, but it's time to spread the message, spread the vibe, and do what we love doing."

The release of their CD is another something to celebrate. "We put about a good year into writing it and getting all the music ready for it, it was self-recorded, self-produced, all in house," said Mr. Cassidy.

The CD, 'Homegrown by the Homegrown Band Bermuda' is available on CDBaby, iTunes, Rapsody, and several other sites.

When asked about why they were still using Homegrown, rather than Jam Signal, Mr. Cassidy explained: "We legitimised the business as Jam Signal and that is the actual company that owns the Homegrown Band.

"It is equal partnership between all the members of the band. Basically we went with Jam Signal for a little while to get it into people's heads, but they were like, 'Jam Signal is cool, but you guys are Homegrown'.

Of the overall experience, Mr. Cassidy said: "We're having a blast, we keep making music every day and there's tons of music in the works. So we're kind of waiting to release a little more stuff, but we are going to give this first one a little more of a go."

On playing to a totally new audience, he said: "It is actually a beautiful thing, because I find people over here a little more open to a wider range of stuff.

"The Reggae that they are kind of used to is what I would call a surfer or West Coast style touch on Reggae, so when we bring the authentic Reggae to them, they just love it. It blows a lot of people away, some people just get down with it right away.

"They love it and we love playing for a new crowd who have never heard about us. It is a shock factor and the thrill factor – we have always been very well received over here. it is definitely not our best option in life, but we all sold our souls to it a long time ago – we are riding it until the wheels fall off."
