Honour roll students excel at Sandys
The seven students pictured at right at the fourth quarter Honour Roll assembly at Sandys Secondary Middle School Thursday are M1, Kimika Jackson, Erin Fleming and Kyle Thompson, M2, Jordan Bascome, Shobhitha Balasubramaniam and Clevon Cunningham, Jr., and M3, Ranisha Simmons.
Not only did they make the honour roll they were singled out for the Principal's List. To earn a listing, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 90-100 per cent with no failing grades.
Because M3 student Ranisha earned Principal's List status throughout her middle school experience, she was given a strong embrace by the principal, Dr. Anthony Jackson, and a sustained standing ovation from the audience. She will be attending the Berkeley Institute in September.
Dr. Timothy Jackson, in the dual capacity as principal, and keynote speaker for the assembly, gave a rousing 'pep talk', sharing with the Sandys Secondary Middle School family that parents must work hard to ensure students are instilled with good values, positively validated and provided with structure (routines and limitations).
He said those are ingredients for making sure we have students with healthy self-esteems. Also, the entire assembly was organised by Deputy Principal Karen Raynor and conducted by Sandys head boy Ethan Rogers, head girl Catrina Fubler and students who earned Principal's List honours.
