Hollywood comedian and film star Eddie Griffin will perform his stand-up routine live at the Fairmont Southampton tonight.

The star of the hit movie 'DysFunKtional Family' is on the Island as part of 'Get Your Laugh On', a night of comedy organised by Image Entertainment.

Mr. Griffin, who has appeared in a string of Hollywood hits, will headline the performance, which also features comedians Coolaide, Wil Sylvince, the Two Fools' Nadanja Bailey and Jahrizino Simmons.

Mr. Bailey, organiser for Image Entertainment, spoke with The Royal Gazette about Mr. Griffin's rise to fame. Nominated class clown three years on the trot, he became a successful dancer and choreographer – and then he was dared to get on stage during an open mic night.

"Mr. Griffin was originally supposed to be on stage for three minutes, but instead performed off-the-cuff for 45 minutes successfully," Mr. Bailey stated.

As a result, Mr. Griffin purchased a one-way ticket to Los Angeles, kick-starting his career as a comedian.

Today he is widely acclaimed as one of the most gifted stand-up comics and is often described as being as influential as Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and Lenny Bruce.

Over the years he has seen success as a film and television actor and musician, starring in such movies as 'Meteor Man', 'Armageddon', 'Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo', 'Double Take', 'Undercover Brother', 'John Q', 'Scary Movie 3', 'Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo', and 'Norbit'.

Mr. Bailey said that this is the first of many major comedy shows planned by Image Entertainment.

"I'm doing this show to set a standard," he said. Anyone who comes to this show will know just by the ambiance that they've made a good move in coming to the show.

"It's going to be crazy funny, as I have performed in the States with both Coolaide and Wil Sylvince.

"I'm psyched and ready. The Two Fools skit we are doing is so funny, and everyone will be able to relate to it.

"So I'll see you at the show or you will definitely hear that it was slammin', and you missed out."

General admission, $75, and VIP tickets, $100, can be purchased at People's Pharmacy and Qui-Ja Fabric.

Doors open at 8.15 p.m. The show starts at 9 p.m. Part proceeds towards the Bermuda Cancer & Health Centre.

"Jokers R Wild" is the official "Get Your Laugh On" Comedy Show After Party, which will take place at Greg's Steakhouse. Entry is $10 with a ticket from the comedy show.
