Large crowd turns out for Olympia Corrent's funeral
There was a big turnout at St. theresa's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Hamilton on Thursday for the funeral of Olympia Marie Corrent, the eldest of the five children born to Dr. E.F. Gordon and Mildred Layne. Mrs Corrent died on November 6 at the age of 64.
Her son, Dr. Claudio Corrent, flew from his home in France for the last rites.
Also in attendance were Mrs Corrent's sisters, former Premier Dame Pamela Gordon and Shadow Transport Minister Patricia Gordon-Pamplin, her brother her brother Ronald Gordon, nieces Karen Huey and Veronica Daley and nephews Ronald Gordon and Trevor Mouchette. Nephew Karim Sharrieff was away at school and unable to attend.
Many political leaders were also present, including Works Minister and Deputy Premier Derrick Burgess representing Premier Paula Cox, who was in London at the Overseas Territories Conference.
Opposition Leader Kim Swan led a large United Bermuda Party delegation, including Lawson Mapp, the former Mayor of Hamilton, and Robert Barritt. Mrs. Corrent was considered to be instrumental in helping Mr. Mapp and Mr. Barritt win capture the PLP stronghold of Pembroke East Central in the 1985 UBP landslide general election.
