until the end of October for an appointment at the Transport Control Department.

A redeployment of staff at the TCD has been ordered to better accommodate people wanting to get their driver's licence.

Members of the public were complaining that the first available appointments had now reached the end of October.

While private driving instructors were being blamed for the problem, Acting Director of TCD David Johnson said that is simply not true.

"It's because we've seen a higher demand of non-Bermudians to have their licences,'' he said. "After a meeting at the Transport Ministry today a redeployment of existing resources will take place.'' "I'm hoping'' he said, "that this will cut the time by one third.'' Mr. Johnson would not reveal exactly how staff would be redeployed nor would he quantify the increased demand for licences.
