Bermuda-based Central European Media Enterprises Ltd., and its partners last month established Pro Plus, a Slovenian independent national television production and advertising sales company.

Pro Plus has now signed an agreement with Kanal A, the largest commercial broadcaster in Slovenia, and Euro 3, a Ljubljana-based broadcaster affiliated with Kanal A.

Pro Plus was established to supply programming to the combined regional broadcasting licences of Marjan Meglic TV (MMTV) and Tele 59, and also provide full advertising sales support.

With the addition of Kanal A, the new national commercial television service will reach more than 80 percent of Slovenian viewers when it goes on air in September 1995.

Under this agreement, Kanal A will take a 44 percent shareholding in Pro Plus.

Its major shareholder Baring Communications Equity Ltd. (BCEL) will acquire five percent and Euro 3 will buy one percent.

CME will retain 27 percent of Pro Plus and, MMTV and Tele 59 will each retain 11.5 percent. In addition, CME will acquire an eight percent interest in Kanal A, added to its 33 percent current stakes in MMTV and Tele 59.

Commenting on the agreement, CME chairman, Mr. Ronald S. Lauder said, "We welcome the addition of Kanal A to the Pro Plus group. With the coverage of the new television service to Slovenia now able to reach almost all of the country, we have great confidence in future success.'' Vladimir Polic, founder and chief executive of Kanal A said, "The combination of the four broadcasters, together with the knowledge and experience of CME and BCEL, make a formidable alliance. I have no doubt that the new service will be a resounding success.'' Slovenia has a population of two million people and was the first state to break away from the Yugoslav federation in 1991. It has had a mixed economy for several decades and has an annual per capita income of more than $6,000, the highest in emerging market economies. The country earns about 50 percent of its gross domestic product from foreign trade, mostly the EU.
