New England Kiwanians enjoy visit to Bermuda
Members of the Bermuda District of Kiwanis International are unwinding after a hectic week entertaining an official visit by New England District Governor David Koohy. He arrived in the Island with a party of more than 50 NE Kiwanians.
Their visit was essentially reciprocal for one made by a Bermuda delegation to Worster earlier this year when Bermuda was formally acknowledged for its new status from associate to Division 26 of the NE District. At that time, the Bermuda Lt. Governor Ms Scarlett Pottinger, accompanied by her members, a group of Gombeys and other entertainers with the backing of the Tourism Department, gave the New Englanders a taste of the Island at a Bermuda night dinner.
District Gov. Kooly and his executive were taken on a hectic round of courtesy calls on Governor Sir Richard Gozney, Premier Ewart Brown and Mayors of Hamilton and St. George's, Charles Gosling and Kenneth Bascome. A large group of NE Kiwanians who are firemen visited the Bermuda Fire and Rescue headquarters in Hamilton.
Major highlight of the visit was a meeting at the Commissioner's House at the National Museum of Bermuda with the Kiwanis Council of Bermuda, made up of representatives from member clubs in Bermuda (Hamilton, St. George's and Sandys). Among other things they discussed the report of their delegation to the 96th Kiwanis International Convention in Las Vegas June 23-27.
An official announcement was made of the Bermuda Division's selection of Past Lieutenant Governor Raymond Tannock as Division 26 Lieutenant Governor for 2010-2011 year.
Pictured at right are Bermuda Council members Sandys President Delores Proctor, Keisha Barrow (treasurer), and St. George's Past-President Altama Burgess David Burgess, Leleath Bailey, and Raymond Tannock (Lieutenant-Governor Elect). Absent from picture are Distinguished Past Lieutenant Governors Robert Mello and Lily Oatley, Hamilton Immediate Past President Gary Dowling, and St. George's Past President Harold Millett.
