Five prize-winning films from the Sundance Film Festival, plus one each from the world's top two documentary film festivals – Amsterdam and Hot Docs – will screen at the Bermuda Documentary Film Festival (Bermuda Docs), October 22-24.

The festival will be held in the Tradewinds Auditorium of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Prize winners from Sundance include: 'Restrepo' (Grand Jury Prize), 'Enemies of the People' (Grand Jury Prize, World Cinema Documentary), 'Waste Land' (Audience Award, World Cinema Documentary), 'Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work' (Film Editing), and 'A Film Unfinished' (Film Editing, World Documentary).

'Enemies of the People' has won 15 international awards, including the Courage in Filmmaking Award at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, while 'Waste Land' has captured 12 top prizes, including the Amnesty International Film Prize at the Berlin and Durban film festivals and audience awards at the Berlin, Durban, Maui, Full Frame (North Carolina) and Provincetown festivals.

'Last Train Home' won Best Documentary Feature at International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, widely considered the world's top documentary festival, while 'A Film Unfinished' won the Best International Feature award at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, generally considered North America's top documentary festival.

'Monica and David' (Best Documentary, Tribeca Film Festival), 'Pelada' (Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking, Newport Beach Film Festival), 'They Came to Play' (Best Doc, Bucharest and SENE Intl. Film and Music Festival) – and the opening night film, 'Kings of Pastry', by legendary documentarians D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, round out the festival feature film line-up. Two Bermudian documentary short films, 'St. Peter's Church: Celebrating 400 Years', by director Lucinda Spurling, and 'A Tiger's Tale' by director and marine biologist, Choy Aming, are featured in the festival. 'St. Peter's' will screen in front of 'Monica and David' on Saturday October 23 at 2 p.m., while 'A Tiger's Tale' will screen in front of 'Waste Land' that evening at 8.15 p.m.

"I am delighted to have two Bermudian documentary films in the line-up," says festival director Duncan Hall. "This will be the first public screening of 'St. Peter's Church' – the only previous screening was a private affair for parishioners of the church. Choy's film was very popular when it screened at BIFF in March – he advises me that ten new minutes of footage have been added since then, and of course every screening of the film is unique because the Q and A afterwards reveals the latest travels of the tagged tigers."

Bermuda Docs is presented by Mini, and sponsored by Stella Artois, North Rock Communications Ltd., Belco, and the Bermuda Arts Council. Bermuda Docs is on Facebook, where filmgoers can find trailers of all the films screening at the festival.
