Profits from local poetry anthology to be donated to cancer charity
When maternity nurse Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Cann died of cancer, her daughter, Mrs. Judyann Bean, decided to pay tribute to her memory the best way she knew how.
Well known locally as a writer of poems and tributes for any occasion, Mrs.
Bean published a second collection of her works -- The Best of My Life.
The book takes its title from the its first poem, which is dedicated to the author's "best friend, my mother''.
Although The Best of My Life is available in several local stores, Mrs. Bean is donating 50 percent of personal sales to the Patients' Assistance League and Service (PALS), Bermuda's registered cancer charity.
"PALS was so good to my mother during her illness that I wanted to do something to help them,'' Mrs. Bean explained.
Joining the author in her effort to raise funds for PALS is the godson of the late Mrs. Cann, Mr. Courtney Rawlins, who also wanted to support the cancer charity in her memory.
Copies of The Best of My Life cost $15, and can be obtained from Mrs. Bean (tel. 295-5566 days, 234-2991 evenings) or Mr. Rawlins (tel. 295-4207 days, 234-1061 evenings).
PALS SUPPORTER -- Poet Mrs. Judyann Bean aims to raise funds for the cancer charity, Patients' Assistance League & Service (PALS), through sales of her book -- The Best of My Life.
