Survey: Kids spurn celeb chef's healthy lunches
MORGANTOWN, West Virginia (AP) — A survey shows kids at the US school featured in "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" liked their standard pizza and chicken nuggets more than the British celebrity chef's fresh, healthy menu items.
And when denied the food they were used to, many stopped buying the school lunch.
The survey at Central City Elementary in Huntington also found children drank less milk after Oliver removed the sugary chocolate and strawberry bottles.
But there is a bright spot in the data from the West Virginia University Health Research Center: More than six in 10 kids said they'd learned to try new foods.
ABC chose to have the show in Huntington after a 2008 Associated Press story dubbed the five-county metropolitan area the United States' unhealthiest.
Karl Rove speech cut short by anti-war protesters
BEVERLY HILLS, California (AP) — Anti-war protesters have heckled former White House political adviser Karl Rove off the stage at his book signing in Beverly Hills.
About 100 Rove supporters watched on Monday as Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans walked toward him with handcuffs, calling him a war criminal and saying she was making a citizen's arrest.
Ten protesters in all repeatedly interrupted Rove's talk at the Saban Theatre as he promoted his memoir, "Courage and Consequence: My Life As a Conservative in the Fight."
Rove says the allegation that the Bush administration lied about weapons of mass destruction "is a pernicious political attack launched by cynical and hypocritical individuals."
There were no arrests.
EU president Van Rompuy to publish book of poems
BRUSSELS (AP) — Little known Belgian. Gets EU's highest office. Publishes poems.
EU President Herman Van Rompuy, known to some as Haiku Herman, will publish a book of poetry next month.
The former Belgian prime minister is an avid writer of haiku, a traditional Japanese form of poetry. Van Rompuy has been criticized as boring since he was picked for the EU's top job in November but some say his haikus stand out.
Until now, he has published them on his blog. Now, with his higher profile, he'll take the next step April 15.
Haiku are unrhymed verses of three lines. Van Rompuy sometimes writes them on political themes, including one last year to laud Belgian-Spanish-Hungarian cooperation:
"Three waves. Roll into port together. The trio is home," he wrote.
