Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will be holding a wearable art show opening today.

'All That Glitters' features wearable art and jewellery by local artists, and runs until August 4.

"It is an exhibit that explores the potential of wearable art and jewellery," said show organiser Ami Zanders. "Artists and jewellers have come together to expand the definitions of these art forms in an atmosphere of creative multi-media inspiration in this out-of-the-jewellery-box show."

She said the artists involved hoped to take wearable art to the next level.

"All that Glitters is a celebration of wearable art," said Ms Zanders. "This will hopefully be one of many shows that showcase jewellery as a fine arts medium in Bermuda."

The exhibit will include jewellery made from found objects, wool, precious metals, beads and wet suits and much, much more.

The artwork ranges from the very contemporary to downright bizarre.

"It is a show designed to inspire not only the viewer but the artists themselves," said Ms Zanders.

Kathy Harriot, Vanessa Richmond, Mark Henderson, Marcia Ingham, Joshua Emmerson, Eloise Fearchar, Keitha Bassett, Alexandra Mosher, Kate Waters, Gabrielle Fernandes, Patrice Morgan, Shay Ford, Suzanne Hooper and Ms Zanders herself are among the artists exhibiting their work.

Ms Zanders said some of her jewellery attempted to answer some of life's more perplexing questions such as: "If Leigh Bowery and Marilyn Manson mated and had spawn, what would their demon spawn look like?"

"I use brightly coloured yarn, over-the-top fabrics, beads, found objects and synthetic hair to make my adornments come to life," she said.

"This is an avant-garde collection designed for those willing to take big risks."

Eloise Fearchar's 'Reincarnation Collection' is a selection of handmade jewellery made entirely out of natural or recycled materials and clothing.

Materials include sea glass, silk, pearls, glass beads, paua shell, neoprene, precious and not-so-precious metals."

Joshua Emmerson, 24, completed his university studies this year at Nova Scotia School of Art and Design University in Halifax. He graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in jewellery design and metalsmithing.

"Drawing inspiration from my personal hobbies, passions and interests, along with flairs of art nouveau style and design, I set out to create one of a kind pieces that speak uniquely to each and every person," said Mr. Emmerson. "Each piece was created with a separate theme, idea and plan of execution, making them all different but with a similar style that has started to become my own."

The exhibit will be featured in the Rick Faries Gallery at Masterworks at the Botanical Gardens in Paget.

The show opens tonight (Friday). Artwork will be for sale at the opening reception between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
