Talent spotter in the crowd
Talent spotter Jake McKim will be among those watching The Secret tonight checking to see if they have what it takes to make them big in the music world.
Mr. McKim, 30, started out as a singer, but went to Houston University where he studied the music business. He then interned with Babyface and after university he landed a job with Beyoncé's father Matthew Knowles at Music World Entertainment.
Although he still does consulting with them, he now has his own A&R (talent scouting) and talent development business.
Last year, he was in Bermuda as a judge on the Success Series' Singing for Success and he stayed in touch with Success Series founder and producer Kevin Bean.
"He started telling me about this new girl group and how Bermuda has really started to rally around them and how he thought there might be some potential outside Bermuda," said the husband and father of two.
"So, trusting his judgement I've decided to just check it out and come out there and evaluate them and see what the viability is in the US and perhaps in other places."
He added: "I just finished working with a new girl group from the UK called From Above. They spent three months in the US and I worked with them and oversaw the making of their project."
He has overseen the making of albums by artists including Beyoncé, Solange, Trinitee 5:7, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland.
"I am intrigued by The Secret and I want to see first hand how they interact with the crowd and what their individual and group talents are."
He added: "I'm familiar with Twanée (Butterfield) because I saw her in the Success series and she is great.
"I've sat down with her and talked about her future interest and saw her talent, but if you have a group of girls on her level then that could be special.
"I think there is a lot of untapped talent in Bermuda, so hopefully I can come in and get people to the next level."
