Troupe offers unique style of theatrical clowning
Theatrical clowning, slapstick and mime are some of the ingredients audiences will enjoy when AGA-BOOM makes its Bermuda Festival debut at City Hall theatre tonight.
Rooted in a unique style of theatrical clowning, AGA-BOOM combines the unbridled silliness of slapstick, and the humour of physical comedy with theatrical expressionism, poetry, and a touch of European avant-garde.
The troupe of clowns/mime artists, led by Dimitri Bogatirev, quite magically blend the best element of circus, comedy and experimental theatre, and are guaranteed to entertain and delight the child in all of us.
Born in the Ukraine, Mr. Bogatirev is the creator, director and the performer whom audiences will recognise as the hulking Aga. He is a highly experienced veteran of Cirque du Soleil's 'Allegria', whose success led to an invitation for he and his wife Iryna to create and perform their clown act for Cirque's popular Las Vegas show, 'O'
Iryna Ivanytska, who plays the lighthearted and acrobatic 'Boom', is a graduate of the Kiev College of Variety and Circus Acts, where she mastered many skills, including acrobatics, juggling, dancing, clowning and singing.
Valery Slemzin, a graduate of Moscow State University of Culture and Art, is proficient in the art of juggling, magic, acrobatics and comedy, and was principal performer with the famous Moscow State Circus before joining AGA-BOOM in 2003.
AGA-BOOM is a unique theatrical event for all ages, with a grand finale which involves the entire audience. Amidst all the happy chaos, festivalgoers can appreciate and admire the discipline and sophisticated skill of these fun-loving circus performers, and leave the theatre with smiles on their faces. Tonight and tomorrow night's performances begin at 8 p.m., while Sunday's final performance is at 2.30 p.m. For tickets/further information see the special Bermuda Festival calendar in today's edition or see website www.bermudafestival.org
