Up With People take road to Bermuda
Some, for example, lead to Bermuda including Up With People's present tour, entitled Roads, which is comprised of songs and dances from around the world.
A five-member advance team from the international educational organisation arrived in Bermuda this past weekend to begin preparations for the multi-cultural performance.
Up With People tour manager Kristie Clark told The Royal Gazette yesterday that 45 cast members representing 12 different countries would be arriving on April 26 for a three week stay.
The advance team is here to help arrange host families for the cast members and to arrange work with local community service programmes.
On May 5 the cast will give Bermudians a sneak preview of the major performance they have planned for the Royal Naval Dockyard on May 9.
Meanwhile, they will also take part in 12 days of community service work with local rest homes, Windreach Recreational Village, CedarBridge Academy, the National Drug Commission and Keep Bermuda Beautiful.
Up With People were last in Bermuda in 1996. The present cast has been together since last July and has completed the majority of its touring.
They have performed in the mid-western United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and the New England area. After Bermuda they will hit Canada before disbanding in June.
The cast is just one of five that Up With People sends around the world each year. Annually there are some 6,000 applications for the 700 available spots which provide personal and professional growth through the unique combination of international travel, performing arts and community service.
Anyone seeking more information or interested in helping the advance team in its search for host families can contact Ms Clark at 295-0300.
And any Bermudians interested in signing on with the Up With People programme will be able to find out more information at the two events scheduled for May 5 and 9.
