It was the night before Cup Match — a night known for spectacular soca concerts.

This year was something extra special.

Hundreds of party animals jumped, waved and danced to the music all night long at Soca Fete at Snorkel Park.

The headliner was soca powerhouse Iwer George. Also performing were new artist Buffy and the band Traffik.

The night started with a warm-up by soca DJ D'General.

By the time Traffik came onstage, the crowd was ready to throw themselves into the music.

The band exuded so much energy it had no problem getting the crowd involved waving rags, jumping up and down and moving from left to right.

The band moved from soca for a few minutes performing Gyptian's massive hit "Hold Yuh", DJ Khalid's "All I Do Is Win", "Never Scared" and a few more songs to the delight of the crowd.

But when Traffik performed arguably the biggest soca song of the year "Palance" that was it.

For those who aren't familiar with the song, when the word 'Palance' is sung, the crowd is supposed to dance to the left and then again to the right.

If done properly, it is tons of fun. One mistake can make dancers fall to the ground.

Either way, it's a good time.

Buffy got on stage with high energy but I felt she wasn't on long enough to make a real impact.

Her song "Anything" had the crowd moving but it wasn't enough to keep them excited.

But when headliner Iwer George got on stage, the crowd went wild.

His energy was crazy. Rags were flying, girls were being picked up all in all, it was madness.

He performed his hits including "Ready", "Water" during which water was literally poured all over the amenable crowd "Hands In De Air Lemme See" and "Trinidad on Fire".

Overall, I would say it was a really great night.

Soca Fete was the perfect way to open the Cup Match holiday in my opinion.

Congratulations are in order for the staff of Snorkel Park who made it happen.

I'm looking forward to next year. Perhaps Machel Montano?
