A new band is using its debut performance as a fundraiser for the Haiti effort.

The Narrows band, which is headed by Cullen O'Hara is hoping to pile people into the Docksiders venue tomorrow night, with the aim of helping a needy cause.

On the bill in addition to The Narrows is the blues band Bones and Bad Current.

"The original scope of the gig was that our band was going to have a release or coming out party," said Mr. O'Hara.

"We have played a smaller gigs before now, but this was going to be our debut show.

"Obviously things happened down in Haiti and even though we had booked the gig at Docksiders, Bones had gotten in touch with them about having a fundraiser, but the way it all worked out was that it made sense to combine our efforts and put it into one show.

"Also Mohawk Radio is putting on a benefit on the 12th and Bones will not be available for that, but we will be playing there as well.

"Everyone wants to do their part and that is why we are kind of teaming up."

Entry is $5 at the door, as the aim was not to limit the attendance in anyway.

"But there will be a place inside where they can donate and we are hoping that people will donate as much as they can afford," he said.

"And it is all going to the Red Cross Haitian Benefit Fund.

"All the musicians are doing it for free, we are not taking any cut of it.

"The $5 at the door covers the cost of security for the night."

Bones kicks the night off at 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and Bad Current will follow after them and we'll probably go on around 11.30 p.m. and play until about 1 a.m. to 1.30 a.m. "So it will be a full evening of music and DJ Smokey will fill in the gaps."

"Because we are only charging at the door, I'm hoping for as much as people are willing to part with, that is kind of why we had it so inexpensive at the door, because between Bones, Bad Current and ourselves we kind of target a pretty wide demographic and the little more established people might come to see Bones – those that can afford a little more than the 18s and early 20s.

"We wanted to make sure that it is pretty much a level playing field into the door and everyone can play their own cards as they decide to."

The band is a combination of genres that can hit a chord with music lovers. "We kind of have a bit of a mixed bag and I guess if you put it in any genre it'll be the Indie category and it is pretty vague, but we have a lot of influences both modern and fairly ancient," he said.

"But it is Rock, Pop, Electro – it is definitely a fresh combination of a lot of different sounds, but it is progressive Rock kind of dance and it is all original and lively. We are kind of trying something different and obviously, as you can tell, what we are charging at the door we are not in it to make a lot of money, we just want to see how it goes.

"Most of us have all played in and around the island in different bands, but it is all kind of refreshing to do something non-cover orientated."

The event starts at 8 p.m. at Docksiders.
