Buddz and UB40 make it a memorable night

Worth waiting for: Collie Buddz at the Bermuda Music Festival on Friday night.
The third night of the Bermuda Music Festival was a Reggae lovers dream come true. The night should have been totally about Birmingham's number one export UB40, but before their performance, the crowds screamed louder for our Ace Boy, our number one guy, Collie Buddz. We got a tasting of Jam Signal, formerly known as the Home Grown Band, and they sang to not only our hearts, but also to their hearts delight.

There were also performances from Rikkai and Mitchell, Raymon Clarke, Gospel Reggae artist Troy Anthony, Tiny T and Jules. Local comedian Nadanja Bailey MC'd the earlier acts, and comedian Bill Belamy did his best later on.

On the Onion's Stage Bermuda's newest mixed genre group, Secret Po-Po, were up just before Collie Buddz' performance, and before them Corvin Melody and Mohawk Radio.

Secret Po-Po stepped onto the stage and the heavens opened in what Bermudians appreciate as 'tank rain'.

The night then lulled a bit and it almost looked as if it wouldn't share the motto of Bermuda's Department of Tourism 'rain, blow or shine', and we wondered whether our man Collie Buddz would ever appear.

But in an instant everything changed and our little short guy with the blue eyes appeared singing 'I've Been Waiting For'.

Although his sound was somewhat off and he didn't sound as good as we know he could, the crowds still went insane anyway! Screams were a part of the norm and it was clear Collie Buddz was pleased that we hadn't waited until he was dead or almost dead to honour our home grown talent.

'Mamacita' was greeted with screams and a singing audience. 'Tomorrow's Another Day' followed and on the back of that 'Come Around'.

'Blind to You' and other hits soon followed and left the crowds screaming, me included, for more. We couldn't believe that he only had a half hour.

Then at about 10.10 p.m. almost a half hour or so after we had accepted that Collie Buddz had left, there was British band UB40 and we welcomed them with open arms.

They sang hits including 'Please Don't Make Me Cry', 'Maybe Tomorrow', 'Wear You to The Ball', 'Red Red Wine', 'Can't Help Falling In Love', 'Beautiful Woman' and a host of other massive hits.

Audience members danced and sang along with them and when they tried to leave, the crowds took over again and began screaming for an encore. They obliged us with 'The Way You Do The Things You Do'.

The third night of the Bermuda Music Festival 2008 was another smashing success.
