Jubilee's skills were sharpened during writers' workshop

Jubilee Edness a Passport to College student

Berkeley Institute student Jubilee Edness took the Passport to College's writers' workshop last May.

The programme helped to improve her writing and vocabulary skills, said the S4 student, who has been accepted at St. John's University.

"It also helped me to time the essay portion of the SAT exam since there is only 25 minutes allocated."

She found that the essay portion of the programme increased her writing and vocabulary skills. "Most of my friends come to me when they have essays to write, or they ask me for [enhanced] vocabulary words to enhance their stories or essays," said the 17-year-old.

Miss Edness heard about the programme at a PTA meeting. "Mrs. Robin O'Neil made a presentation about the programme, and my parents felt that it would be in my best interest to attend."

She explained that the programme also prepared her for the application process of overseas study.

When asked about her future goals, she said: "After university I plan to return to Bermuda, pursue a career as an underwriter, and make a worthwhile contribution to Bermuda's insurance industry."

Miss Edness added: "My advice to those younger than I am, who are to embark on this programme, is to take it seriously and to know where you are going before you get there.

"As Berkeley's motto states; Respice Finem, Keep the End in View."
