Our Annual Seniors Tea at Clearwater Middle School

Last Friday was a really special day for us children in M1 at Clearwater. Every year our M1 teachers organise a Seniors Tea in our School Auditorium.

We invite all the senior citizens in the East End to join us for an afternoon's entertainment by Clearwater Middle School.

We worked very hard to get things ready.

Our teachers made sandwiches and cookies and lots of pots of tea!

Ms Libby Francis, our M1 Team Leader, borrowed cups and saucers and tea pots and other crockery from the Bermuda Regiment and various goods were donated from grocery stores in the area. We spent the whole of Friday morning setting everything up!

I was especially excited because my nana, Mrs. Pam Trott, was coming and, during the Tea, I had my picture taken with her.

We made sure that every senior citizen who came was escorted into the hall by an M1 student, and we also took lots of pictures of them. We counted 72 Seniors who came to tea that afternoon.

We also put on a special entertainment programme for them including skipping and a special "seniors skit" which we wrote ourselves.

Our music ensemble played music by Ludwig van Beethoven.

At the end of the performance our Clearwater Drum Line performed along with our Clearwater Gombeys. Some of the seniors even got up and danced with the Gombeys!

We have great fun when our seniors come to tea and I had great fun because my nana was there!

Commenting on the afternoon, deputy principal Dr. Derek Tully noted: "Acknowledging the contribution made by our seniors has always been one of the core philosophies at Clearwater Middle School, this is the 10th year we have had such a Tea and Sandwiches for them.

"Our M1 Team Leader Ms. Libby Francis already has plans in hand for next year, including (hopefully) interviewing the Seniors during the Tea and having the occasion filmed by the Government television crews.

Once again we shall have the tea during Heritage Month in May. It would really be nice to have a "living history" programme during the month of May.

"Our seniors are a vital part of the community in the East End, and of course many are related to the children who help and make this afternoon such a special one."
