Rhona revels in the great outdoors

A selection of plein aire paintings from around the Island will go on show tonight at Common Ground Café.

The paintings are from one member of the Plein Aire Painters of Bermuda, Rhona J. Emmerson, who gets out, weather permitting, most Sundays to paint with the group.

"It's a fun group and a reason to get out and paint, rather than a get round to it," she said.

"Most of the work is started on location and finished at home on my balcony at my house – it's my 'out door' studio.

"Working with oils is too smelly to do inside."

As the president and owner of AAC Saatchi and Saatchi Communications Agency she has limited time to paint.

"The work for this show is Bermuda inspired, I only have the weekend to paint, so it try to make the most of it.

"And I have a steady pile of art magazines beside the bed to read and keep up with international trends, painters, techniques and supplies etc. to help me grow.

"It's a good stress relief from a busy week."

The exhibit 'Impressions 09', is the latest offering from Select Palette Art.

The Plein Aire Painters of Bermuda is open to any aspiring artist.

More information can be found at www.artbermuda.bm.

The exhibition opens this evening from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and runs until January 28.
