SCREEN GEMS

Proud grandmother: Juanita Jones Campbell shows a baby gym with her grandson Ananias Braxton’s picture on it. The baby gym was purchased at the People's Pharmacy.

Bermudian Juanita Jones Campbell recently saw a baby gym in the People's Pharmacy on Church Street and snapped it up – even though she had no baby.

The little gym, meant to entertain a small child, went into a growing collection of similar toys and other odds and ends that are left mostly unopened.

It's not that she has some bizarre collecting disorder – pictures of her two-year-old grandson, Ananias Braxton are featured on the packaging.

Ananias and twin brother Anakhai and four-year-old brother Najun, are making it big on the California modelling scene.

"The two have been modelling since they were six months old," said Mrs. Campbell. "Their father, my son, Swanson Braxton is a United States marine at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.

"Their mother's name is Zawadi."

One day Mrs. Braxton was visiting a mall near their home in San Diego when the kids were spotted by a talent scout.

"They were spotted by the Jet Set modelling agency," said Mrs. Campbell.

"They were spotted at three months old and were signed up at six months old."

The talent scouts said they were interested in Ananias and Anakhai because they didn't see many African American identical twin boys.

Today, the twins are often featured together or individually in different photo shoots. They have modelled for the company Proctor & Gamble, and they appeared in the 2009 Target spring catalogue.

Their proud-as-punch grandmother, Mrs. Campbell, also has to keep an eye on the television, because they have made it into television commercials.

She never knows when one of her grandsons might appear on the screen.

"Ananias did a short appearance on the ABC sitcom 'Modern Family' in September 2009 and older brother Najun, four, did a Motts Apple Juice commercial with movie star Judith Greer."

Ms Greer will appear in the movie 'Marmaduke' being released this June.

She has also made appearances on 'Modern Family'.

Mrs. Campbell said her son has just finished his first tour of duty in Afghanistan

"He is a Bermudian-American and graduated from the Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Florida a few years ago," she said.

After graduating from the Air Academy, Mr. Braxton worked in Bermuda as a Police officer for a little while.

"Then he decided to spread his wings in the United States and signed up as an American marine," said Mrs. Campbell.

"I wanted to let Bermuda to know that some of the children they are seeing on television, catalogues and on baby equipment packages, are Bermudian and they are doing very well."
