Sista Mandy to perform
A promising new Bermudian born reggae singer/songwriter, who has been quietly involved in music for most of her life, will headline Chewstick Griot Sessions tomorrow.
Amanda Smith, a.k.a. Sista Mandy, will headline Reggae Emotions, with special guests KenjiSan, E-Levelz, Ninja Cutty, Ras Giorgis and DJ Big Mon.
She began singing in church choirs and school productions, but has only recently branched out to make music a prominent feature in her life.
Sista Mandy began writing original songs in November, 2008 and last year travelled to Portmore, Jamaica, to meet with Ravin Wong, a well-known producer who assisted singers such as Gyptian and I Wayne in attaining prominence in the music industry. She has since returned to Jamaica to record tracks for her debut album.
"Music is life and one can always relate to it no matter the genre," she said. "We need to spread love across our country and this is what the songs on my CD relate to.
"I get inspiration from my environment, surroundings, work and struggles that people endure everyday. My words are of consciousness, awareness, my youth, love, peace and unity for our families and our Island."
Tomorrow night's show will feature some original songs from her upcoming album and a variety of acts from the special guests featured in this week's Griot Sessions. Tickets are on sale at The Chewstick Foundation from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday for $20. Showtime is 8 p.m.
The event will be streamed live on www.chewstick.com.
