The Fab Four return Sex and the City movie arrives in Bermuda tomorrow

'Sex in the City' stars (l-r) Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall arrive at the German premiere of the movie.

With the 'Sex and the City' movie due to premiere worldwide tomorrow night, women around the globe are breaking out the Cosmos and killer heels for a night of chick-flick fun and frolics and the Island is no exception.

Local fans of the now legendary HBO series can look forward to at least three special screenings of the movie version featuring the fab four ladies — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and the raunchy Sam (Kim Cattrall).

A Sex and the City Cocktail Party and Gala Evening planned for Saturday night sold out so quickly that organisers had to add an extra viewing of the movie. With the spillover crowd now attending a screening tomorrow, Saturday night's Sex fans will have to hope those guests don't play spoiler.

"The tickets actually sold out in 25 minutes," said party organiser Paul Sofianos of seats for Saturday night's party.

The gala premiere of the 'The Sex and The City' movie will happen on May 30 at 7.30 p.m. and May 31 at 6.30 p.m. at The Liberty Theatre in Hamilton.

The first hour will be a SATC-themed cocktail party and then the much-awaited film. Guests are encouraged to come to Liberty Theatre dressed in Sex and The City chic.

"There are some interesting things about the event," said Mr. Sofianos. "Before the movie starts we will be having a Sex And The City trivia contest.

"We will be giving away prizes including a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes from Lusso on Front Street."

Sponsors All Wrapped Up, Ketel One vodka, Veuve Clicquot and E-moo classifieds have ensured that for the $55 ticket price, Sex fans will enjoy complimentary champagne and Cosmopolitans as well as hors d'oeuvres and prize giveaways.

Four years have passed since the HBO series wrapped up and time has built anticipation for fans who wanted updates on the lives of the four lead characters.

It has been ten years since audiences were first introduced to the ladies, who burst on the screen as unapologetic thirty-something singles looking for love, sex and by all means fashion in New York City. The show's cutting edge humour and fresh portrayal of fast-talking women with a take-no-prisoners attitude towards the Big Apple's notoriously cut-throat singles scene won instant fans and built steadily on that support while allowing its characters to grow and develop.

The film finds Carrie possibly about to marry her on-again, off-again love Mr. Big (Chris Noth), Charlotte exploring motherhood, Miranda experiencing a rough patch in her marriage and Samantha staking out new territory across the country in Los Angeles. To find out more, you'll have to attend the film.

The HBO show's strong chick-appeal has led some critics to question if women viewers alone can carry a movie to box office success but early screenings are selling out worldwide as women plan to attend in groups in true 'girls night out' fashion.

"It appears that the majority of the people attending the cocktail party are ladies," said Mr. Sofianos. But he said the show does have some male fans, including himself.

"I am a fan of the show," said Mr. Sofianos. "My ex-wife got me interested in the television show. I enjoy the interaction between the four women and I enjoy the contrast between them."

Mr. Sofianos is currently working on starting an entertainment business to organise similar events.

"The key people who are putting it together are myself and John Bartram. We are working on the name right now. It might be J&P Entertainment. We do quite a few things like this.

Tickets to the Sex and The City cocktail party and movie are $55. Part of the proceeds will go to Bermuda's Autism Intervention Centre, a newly registered charity. Tickets to the May 31 show are sold out. Tickets to the May 30 show are available at All Wrapped Up in Hamilton.

There will also be a screening to benefit victims of the Myanmar cyclone and China earthquake on Sunday night. The women-only screening takes place at 5.30 p.m. and tickets are available at $25 each. To purchase a ticket, e-mail Catherine Kennedy at: ckennedy@logic.bm. Tickets can be collected from the Bermuda Red Cross at 9 Berry Hill Road, Paget, 236-8253.

The Liberty Theatre will also be doing regular showings of the movie over the next week.
