Time to submit your rum swizzle recipe

Swizzle King:Jai Michael Phillips

All rum swizzle enthusiasts are being encouraged to take part in the 2nd Annual Swizzle King Competition.

Event manager Kedric Smith, of Bda Lime, said last year's winner was Jai Michael Phillips, who beat nine contestants with his great tasting Bermuda rum swizzle.

"All one has to do to participate is e-mail their name, telephone number, parish and the ingredients for their swizzle recipe in ounces for one gallon (or 128 oz) of the drink," he said. E-mails should be sent to info@islandeventsgroup.com.

The preliminary rounds are set to take place on Monday at Destination Dockyard, Tuesday at St. George's Market Night and Wednesday at Harbour Night. The new Swizzle King will be chosen by the public.

"For the $7 tasting fee, they get a 5oz cup of each contestants swizzle to test," said Mr. Smith. "Patrons get to sample the competitor's swizzle and then choose one they feel is the best in that round.

"We will have a tent set up at each location. At Destination Dockyard, we will be with the vendors on the lawn, for Market Night we will be in St.George's Square, and for Harbour Night we will be under the Goslings building balcony."

The six finalists will take part in the finals, at Lemon Tree on June 26.

"The Swizzle King will win $500, a $500 travel voucher, a glass trophy, and the right to be called the 2010 Swizzle King," added Mr. Smith.

"It will be more of a party in which DJ Rusty G and DJ Chubb will be playing the best in Top 40 hits. There will also be Crown and Anchor for Goslings prizes, and Makin' Waves will show off their latest fashions in their "Summer Hits" Fashion Show."

There are limited advanced tickets that will be sold at Makin' Waves for $20 and at the door they will be $30.

The event is being hosted by Bda Lime, which is part of Island Event's Group, and Goslings.
