Tokio Re supports summer arts camp
Tokio Millennium Re is making it possible for any child with a love of art to attend Kaleidoscope's highly inventive arts camp this summer.
Tokio has given Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation (KAF) a donation to cover scholarships for children who may not be able to afford the camp's price.
"Tokio realises there are so many kids on the Island with so much potential, but, unfortunately, many of them don't get the access to programmes like this," said Christina Booth, chairperson of Tokio Millennium Re's charity committee.
Tokio was proud to partner with Kaleidoscope and the Bermuda National Gallery (BNG) to help reach kids with artistic interest, passion and potential.
"Giving them the means to attend is not only a benefit to them, but to all of Bermuda," said Ms Booth. "Kids who don't have the financial means to go to this summer camp can in fact apply for it and go to it.
Kathy Harriott, acting director for KAF, said KAF was delighted to receive this funding.
"Our camp is a collaboration between KAF and the Bermuda National Gallery and with this donation we can keep our fees much lower," said Ms Harriott. "We will also be able to offer scholarships for those families who are unable to pay.
"Potentially half of them will be scholarship students."
She added: "Kaleidoscope wants to ensure every child in Bermuda has an opportunity to participate in a visual arts education.
"This is important because a visual arts education helps children perceive the world in multiple ways.
"It helps them with problem solving and it helps them with a social opportunity they might not otherwise have had as well with their peers, teachers and other artists."
Lisa Howie, director of education and programming of the Bermuda National Gallery, stated: "In July 2010, the BNG and KAF are collaborating to offer an art camp inspired by the Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art."
"We are thrilled that Tokio Re has joined us as a sponsor so that we can effectively reduce the price of this camp, and offer full scholarships to those in need.
"Being able to provide art camp experiences that are affordable for all is very important to the health and growth of our community. Thank you, Tokio Re."
