Senseis Ed Melaugh and Shawn Harvey will be taking part in seminars tomorrow at the Old Berkeley Institute.

Four new shows are opening this evening at the Bermuda Society of Arts, and according the Lesley Rego, of the Bermuda Society of Arts, they are an exciting mix of talent.

"In the Onions Gallery there is the Bermuda College Annual Student Art Show," she said. "While in the Edinburgh Gallery, there is a show of recent works by Jeane Butterfield and that is called 'Still Wet'.

"An installation by Kathy Harriott entitled 'Till Death Do Us Part' is in Studio A, while in Studio B she has another installation called 'The Ties That Bind'."

Mrs. Rego also said Jerrard Polk will be on hand in the Gallery to sketch caricatures tomorrow (Saturday) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Ring 537-0704 to reserve a time. The shows open this evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the City Hall Gallery. The show closes on April 1.

Party people VIP Promotions aims to entertain you Miami-style tonight and tomorrow.

The first of its two events takes place at the Robin Hood Pub & Restaurant, while the second takes place at Pier Six, tomorrow.

Organiser Janson Cross said: "In order to bring the South Beach flavour to Bermuda, VIP Promotions went on a research trip to Miami late last year and sought out the top DJs.

"After hitting up clubs like Mansion and Karu n Y, we found the perfect DJs to bring that flavour, Prodigy Movements.

"Prodigy Movements is very excited to DJ here in Bermuda and hopes our Island is ready to party like they are on South Beach."

In addition to Prodigy Movements, revellers will also be entertained by the likes of DJ Radigan, Magic, DJ Aztec and DJ Scarface. Mr. Cross said tomorrow night will be pure hits, both new and old.

"This will be held at Pier 6. In addition to Prodigy Movements, we will also have China & Bussy, Jugglin J, Mikey B, DJ Aztec and DJ Scarface," he said. Advance tickets for tonight are $25 and for tomorrow night $30. Tickets are $50 for both nights.

The Bermuda Small Circle Jujitsu Academy will be holding clinics this weekend with one of their masters Sensei Ed Melaugh.

Academy founder Sensei Shawn Harvey explained that Sensei Melaugh was not only an eighth degree black belt, but he was also his teacher.

He said Sensei Ed Melaugh runs a thriving martial arts school., the New England Small Circle JuJitsu Academy near Boston, in Woburn, Massachusetts. "He teaches Small Circle Jujitsu and Jujitsu Defence throughout the United States and in Europe. He became the first American, in 2001, to teach Small Circle Jujitsu in the Czech Republic.

"He has since returned to teach in Prague, in Finland and Slovakia. At home, he has trained many law-enforcement and security officers in defensive tactics."

Mr. Harvey added that Sensei Melaugh was inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame as JuJitsu Instructor of the Year in 1991.

"Zen Do Kai has inducted him into its Black Belt Hall of Fame. From JuJitsu America, he received the Instructor of the Year Award in 1993, the Presidential Award in 1990, and was inducted into the Black Belt Hall Of Fame in 1995," he said.

"In 1996 Sensei Melaugh became the Sport JuJitsu World Champion in Self Defence."

In addition to Sensei Melaugh, he will be joined by Sensei Mark Tutill, who is a fourth degree black belt, and Paul Skiffington, who is a 3rd degree black belt. Classes will be held throughout the day on Saturday at the old Berkeley Institute on St. Johns Road.
