What was missed in all the PR

Hello Family! Back on the rock. We're into the month of October; the year is just flying by. I missed the Bermuda Music Festival as I was off-Island but I hear it was a blast!

What a great concert; the highlight for me was seeing Malcolm Hollis, an autistic boy, singing alongside Toni Braxton. What a treat. It gives those of us with autistic kids hope.

Then I learned that Kingdom Entertainment and Oxford Communication will be donating money to the Bermuda Autism Support and Education (BASE) Society and to Autism Speaks in America! How fantastic is that?

Kingdom Entertainment and Oxford Communication should be congratulated for being such good corporate citizens, donating to worthy causes and just being good people. More on this after the top 20.

Improving to #1 it's 'I Love The Way You Lie' by Eminem featuring Rihanna. Improving to #2 is 'Rockstar 10', another hit by Rihanna. Tumbling to #3 is a DJLT fave, 'California Gurls' by Katy Perry, featuring Snoop Dogg, one of the hottest global pop tracks!

Improving to #4 is 'Dynamite' by Taio Cruz. Up to # 5 is 'I like It' by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull. Climbing to #6 is 'Ride' by Ciara featuring Ludacris. Falling to #7 is 'Find Your Love' by Drake, one of the most popular artists these days.

Falling to #8 is 'Palance' by JW and Blaze, a popular soca track this year. Slipping to #9 is 'OMG' by Usher featuring Will I AM; a very popular and catchy track.

Making huge gains up to #10 it's 'Hello, Good Morning' by Diddy. Up to #11 is 'Teenage Dream' by Katy Perry, a former essential new track. Down to #12 is 'L'il Freak' by Usher featuring Nicki Minaj. Improving to #13 is last week's must have new song, 'Just The Way You Are' by Bruno Mars. Up to #14 is 'DJ Got Us Falling In Love' by Usher featuring Pitbull.

Up to # 15 is 'Deuces', by Chris Brown featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall. Slipping to #16 is 'Nothing On You' by BoB featuring Bruno Mars. New at #17 is 'Only Girl In The World' by Rihanna.

Up to #18 is 'Just A Dream by Nelly'. Falling to #19 is 'Unthinkable' by Alicia Keys. In the #20 spot this week is 'Break Your Heart' by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris.

Now back to this week's word Good Corporate Citizenship. Bermuda just had a successful Music Festival.

But as is typical with the media; the story behind the story was missed.

All media coverage of the festival to date focused on the artists, the venue, the entertainment, the crowd, the Premier speaking, other notable figures being involved in the event, etc.

At the end of the day; what does that do and what real meaningful contribution to our society does that give?

There was even an announcement made about a donation being made to Bermuda Autism Support and Education (BASE)! But missed in all the media coverage was the fact that the event organisers, Kingdom Entertainment and Oxford Communication, were donating cash money.

It was not Toni Braxton donating money, as misunderstood by the general public. Toni is great and she is a major helper of autism worldwide; but let's be real, her way was paid, she received a fee for singing!

The real heroes here are Kingdom Entertainment and Oxford Communication, who took a bit of a risk on the event, will not make any or much money on this small event, and who have donated money from the proceeds of the Music Festival to two autism charities, BASE and Autism Speaks!

That, media colleagues, is the story that should have been given more PR. But as is typical of my media colleagues, that was not highlighted because it isn't as sexy or glamorous as having Toni Braxton's name and popularity sell newspapers or increase ratings.

So, congratulations to Kingdom Entertainment and Oxford Communication, two new companies on-Island that are doing great work in the community, giving back, setting the example of organisations having a duty and a responsibility to give back to the communities that they serve and which sustain them.

And these organisations have hired, trained, pushed and promoted Ashley Aitken, a Bermudian, who is the face of the franchise and is doing a great job.

This too is good news, missed in all the PR. We now look forward to more community service from these two organisations and hope that more companies will embrace the concept of good corporate citizenship, following the example of Kingdom Entertainment and Oxford Communication Peace... DJLT.
